I used my new BBQ Drum roaster for the first time this week-end. It will take a little bit gettintg used to but it is so cool to be able to roast up to a pound at one time.

June 1, 2008 by JimRoasting Kona
May 7, 2008 by JimI roasted some Kona this week-end and it came out great. Looks just right and tastes great. I roasted for my birthday which is real soon. You want to roast Kona well because it costs som much.
Kenya AA
April 13, 2008 by JimI reached into my reserved coffee and found som Kenya AA. I roasted most of it to a nice chocolate brown. I save out a few that I roasted for espresso. I will let you know how it tastes when we drink it.
I really liked this coffee it tasted sweet. It reminded me of honey.
Kona extra fancy
March 20, 2008 by JimI finally got to taste the lighter Kona I roasted. It is exceptional. Real smooth and full bodied. I love this coffee, that must be why it is so expensive!
Kona extra fancy
March 13, 2008 by JimI roasted some Kona extra fancy that I roasted very dark. It tastes like the best espresso I have ever tasted. Of course my wife won’t like it so I roasted some lighter for here but haven’t tasted it yet we are still drinking the Venezuelan.
Venezuelan
March 11, 2008 by JimWell I finally got to sample the Venezuelan coffee. It tastes great, smooth chocolaty, pleasant after taste. I also roasted Kona this week-end, should be trying that soon.
Venezuelan
March 3, 2008 by JimI roasted the Venezuelan guaro this week-end. It is a real nice bean to home roast. I will let you know tomorrow how it tastes.

February 29, 2008 by JimI now have the Venezuelan and the El Salvador in house. I am still waiting for the Howling Monkey.
Blue Mt.
February 26, 2008 by JimThis weekend I roasted a sample of what they are calling Blue Mt. I also got coffee from the cupping that was from Costa Rica that was roasted by Counter Culture Coffee in Charlotte and sold in Whole Foods. It was very good coffee and I was really enjoying it. This morning on my way to work I drank the Blue Mt., It is wonderfull so smooth and a pleasant aftertaste. Also this morning I had the Costa Rica in my thermos that I had been enjoying earlier this week. After drinking the Blue Mt. and then the Costa Rica, it didn’t taste as good any more. I guess I am getting spoiled.
First coffee cupping
February 25, 2008 by JimI am learning. I attended my first coffee cupping class put on at Whole Foods by Counter Culture Coffee a roasting company in Durham, NC. It was so cool. We cupped 3 different coffees and wrote down our results. Now I know how to do it myself at home but the nuances in the aromas and tastes will take a long time, just like wine tasting does.
